By Zavora Fresh Exports · Nairobi, Kenya
What does a fresh produce exporter do?
A grower produces the crop; an exporter coordinates the commercial shipment; a sourcing agent helps match buyer requirements with available supply. These responsibilities can overlap. Ask who selects the growers, checks quality, packs the goods, arranges documentation and communicates with the carrier.
For mixed orders, coordination matters as much as access to farms. Flowers, herbs and chillies have different grading and handling needs. A shared departure does not mean every product can safely use the same packing or temperature specification.
Compare Zavora’s sourcing, consolidation and export coordination services against the tasks you need covered before selecting a supplier.
Which products should international buyers enquire about?
Start with the products your customers actually need. Zavora’s flower catalogue includes single head roses, spray roses, carnations, summer flowers and foliage. The herb line covers basil, mint, rosemary, thyme, coriander, chives and dill; the chilli line includes bird’s eye, cayenne, long green and habanero enquiries.
Cashew nuts require a separate specification and handling discussion. Do not assume that a horticultural exporter supplies every Kenyan fruit or vegetable, or that an item shown online is available in your quantity on your preferred date.
Use the product catalogue to build a precise enquiry instead of requesting an undefined mixed produce shipment.

Send us your produce, volume and destination airport and we will reply with availability and pricing.
Build an enquiry the exporter can actually quote
A quotation is only useful when it describes the same order you intend to receive. Send a product-by-product specification, not just a target budget. State whether you need bulk wholesale packaging, retail-ready packs or a florist assortment.
Include the destination country and airport, your preferred arrival window and the details of your importer or clearing agent. If this is a trial, make that clear so the exporter can assess an appropriate order size rather than assuming a recurring programme.
- Product, variety and acceptable quality tolerances
- Quantity by stems, bunches, boxes or net kilograms as appropriate
- Pack dimensions, labels and count or weight per pack
- Destination airport, arrival window and required documents
Plan destination compliance and arrival handling
Plant-health rules come from the destination authority and can differ by product. KEPHIS is Kenya’s plant-health authority; an export phytosanitary certificate is not a substitute for any import permit, inspection or buyer requirement at arrival.
African markets, European countries, Gulf destinations and Asian markets are not single regulatory systems. Check the actual country and entry point with your importer before paying. Confirm who handles customs clearance, local transport and cold storage after airport arrival.
Move from an enquiry to a documented first shipment
Review the written specification, price basis, payment terms, proposed routing and claims process together. A sensible first order tests the agreed standards and the arrival process; it is not proof that every future harvest or flight will be identical.
Zavora can discuss sourcing, grading, packing, documentation and air-freight coordination from Nairobi’s JKIA. Product eligibility, quantities, packing and arrival dates must be confirmed per order.
Send your specification through the quote request so the team can assess supply and shipment planning for your destination.
